On January 31, 2020, OSRAM donated 510 sets of UV lighting fixtures to Wuhan No. 1 Hospital, Wuhan No. 4 Hospital and Wuhan No. 5 Hospital, helping hospitals, medical staff, and patients fight against the virus. OSRAM will continue to pay attention to the situation of the epidemic, and make efforts for people to return to normal life and work as soon as possible through photonic health solutions.

510 sets of UV lighting fixtures arrived in Wuhan hospitals

According to authoritative experts, a sufficient amount of UV radiation is an effective means currently known to inhibit the virus. UV sterilization is a highly efficient sterilization method recognized and recommended by the country. Bacterial sterilization is achieved by destroying the molecular structure of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and RNA (ribonucleic acid) of microbial cells, resulting in the death of growing cells and/or regenerative cells. All types of coronaviruses are single-stranded and plus-strand RNA viruses. UV lighting fixtures donated by OSRAM can be used in indoor spaces to safely and efficiently eliminate bacteria and viruses from the air and furniture surfaces.

OSRAM learned that many hospitals urgently need professional UV lighting fixtures, which can not only eliminate the virus in the hospital room, but also greatly alleviate the routine disinfection work of the nurses and allow nurses to gain more time to take care of patients. OSRAM obtained the specific needs of Wuhan No. 1 Hospital, Wuhan No. 4 Hospital and Wuhan No. 5 Hospital, and transferred the goods to Wuhan the first time. Now 510 sets of fixtures have arrived in three hospitals.
